Principal's Message

Christina Ramsey

Christina Ramsey
Middle/High School Principal

Welcome to the 20-21 school year. Hopefully you have had a relaxing, and yet, safe summer. Spring of 2020 has forced us to find a new normal for learning. Normal is such a simple word but has become a BIG challenge. It is our goal to find our new normal here at MMS/MHS.

We have been using these summer months to improve our approach for teaching by developing new strategies and techniques so our students will be able to grow and thrive more than ever through these new learning opportunities. Our teachers have been preparing lessons that can be adapted to our ever-changing learning environment. Our teachers have attended trainings and have been working diligently to ensure the curriculum and materials are ready for your children. We appreciate their time and effort in making the necessary changes based on what they have learned throughout these last several months.

Our maintenance and custodial staff have been preparing our building in order to meet the requirements of our Health & Safety Plan. Our maintenance staff has made some physical changes to our building: water fountains have been replaced with water bottle filling stations and many hand sanitizing stations will be placed throughout the building. Our custodial staff has been disinfecting and sanitizing everything to ensure our building is ready for our students.

Please know your child’s safety is of utmost importance to us. As of right now, our faculty, staff and admin team are looking forward to our first day of school, August 19th back in the building together (while practicing social distancing in classrooms, study halls, hallways, cafeteria, etc). So, here are some of the major changes due to COVID-19 that we have put in place:

  • Staff Changes:
    • Mrs. Curfman and Mrs. Chafardon have left us for new opportunities and will be greatly missed. A new Assistant Principal will not be hired, however Mrs. Crouse, Mr. Welsh, and Mr. Gordon will be assisting with discipline this year.
    • Mrs. Crouse moved from Middle School Science to High School Biology.
    • We are currently advertising for a middle school science teacher.
  • New Student & 6th Grade Orientation:
    • There will not be a Back to School Event this year. However, there will be an orientation for new students and incoming 6th graders. This event will be held on Monday, August 17th between 6-8pm. More details will be sent out to new students and the incoming 6th graders regarding this event.
  • Educational Field Trips: These will not be accepted/approved this year.
  • Visitors: No visitors will be permitted in the school unless essential and approved by administration.
  • Morning Drop Off: The gym and cafeteria will be open at 7:30am as it has been in the past to accommodate families. Drop off can be earlier if needed. Call your building administrator to make arrangements for earlier than 7:30am.
  • Phys Ed Classes: Students will not be changing for phys ed. Students should bring or wear their sneakers for phys ed.
  • Lockers:
    • Lockers will not be assigned this year, however all students will be allowed to carry a backpack this year. If you feel your child needs a locker, please contact Mrs. Fisher in the Guidance Office.
  • Busing:
    • No student will be permitted to ride a bus in which they are not listed on the roster. For example, students will not be permitted to ride home with friends with a bus note. No bus notes.
    • Parents may not approach the school buses while they are parked on school property. If you need your child from the bus, you must go to the office and a school administrator will escort your child from the bus.
  • Handbook Changes:
  • Face Coverings:
    • Students, faculty and staff will be required to wear a face covering unless there is a documented medical condition stating one can’t be worn.
  • Athletics:
    • PIAA states that sports are to begin as scheduled on August 17th. Sports physicals will be held on August 11th at 3pm in the nurse’s office of the MS/HS. If spectators are not permitted to attend the events, we will do our best to get games lived streamed.
  • Lunches:
    • Lunch schedules will be the same as last year. Social distancing will occur to the best of our ability. Extra tables and benches have been purchased to allow for additional seating outside in our courtyard when weather permits or in classrooms/gym otherwise. Cafeteria staff will be using disposable plates and plasticware and will be individually wrapping as much as possible. The lunch menus will be available on our school district website.
  • School Success Program
    • Check & Connect (through The Fulton County Family Partnership) is a program designed to work cooperatively with students, parents, and the school to improve student engagement and increase academic success.
    • Support provided during the school day and Thursdays after school until 4pm. Forms available in the main office to sign up.
  • Academic Tutoring
    • Provided by certified teachers on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesdays after school until 3:30pm. Students are welcome to stay anytime they feel they need the support.
  • Students Planners
    • All students will have the option of receiving a Student Planner. Students in grades 6th, 7th, and 8th will receive a Student Planner on the first day of school. Others can receive a planner if interested.
  • Forms
    • Again this year, all students in grades 6-12 will receive a chromebook that they will be permitted to take home each evening.
    • Chromebook Forms will be distributed on the first day.
      • 1:1 Chromebook Lending Agreement (green sheet)
      • 1:1 Chromebook Protection Plan (blue sheet)

Your partnership and support are key elements to ensuring that we are able to maximize each student’s educational and personal development. We hope through good communication, we can provide care, enthusiasm, and commitment to the education of your child that will address each child’s social, emotional, and academic needs this year. If you are not comfortable in sending your child to school during the green phase, please reach out to me because we do have other options for you which include our Spartan Virtual Academy. Our Instructional Plan that explains the Green, Yellow, and Red Phases of instruction as well as our Health & Safety Plans can be found on our website at As of right now, we are in the GREEN Phase and plan to begin school on August 19th.  If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to us!
